Quilters

"Those who sleep under a quilt, sleep under a blanket of love."

Our Bethlehem Quilters meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 9 AM in the Basement Fellowship Hall.  At certain times of the year, there is also an evening session at 7 PM. Can you tie a knot? Join in! No skills required. The quilts they make primarily go to Lutheran World Relief. They also give each high school graduate a quilt to send them off on their new journeys in life with.

These quilting sessions have produced well over a hundred quilts a year donated to Lutheran World Relief.  Read more about LWR Quilts.
A core group of 10-12 women meet to tie the quilts, pin, and machine-stitch an edge binding on each one. Outside the monthly work sessions, members sew together quilt tops, collect and sort donated fabric, batting, and sheets used for quilt backs.
In November, the finished quilts are dedicated during a Sunday worship service then packed and shipped to regional warehouses. Eventually they are shipped by container along with quilts from all over the country to areas in need in the United States and around the world.
Also when the congregation’s high school seniors are recognized on graduation Sunday, each is given a quilt made by Bethlehem Quilters as a send-off “hug.”
Anyone who can stand at a raised work table and tie knots is welcome to join this group! Advanced sewing skills are not required and sewing supplies are provided. Work sessions include some fellowship time and potluck snacks.
If you have fabric or old blankets to donate, wish to make a cash donation to help with shipping, or have any questions about the quilt ministry, please contact Mary McKay at 402-443-4229.
